I know… Long time, no blog updates, but I have a perfectly good explanation for this. As most of you know Steven and I went to London for our New Year’s adventure and I can tell you straight away we had an amazing time! I have so much to tell you, that I don’t know where to start from. As usually, I will give you some tips and pointers to keep in mind if you are planning to visit London anytime soon. So here’s the story of two Aussies in London in winter!
If you haven’t already done that you should visit my post on How We Planned Our New Year’s Eve Getaway Part I and Part II. I’ve done a pretty amazing research and I will tell you why it is so amazing. As it turns out without a good plan you are a dead man walking in London. My research was a life-saver! Without a plan you will start paying a fortune for admissions, you are not going to know which attraction to visit and you will get absolutely exhausted to run around with the crowd or queue like crazy. I can’t emphasize enough how important planning is, especially if this is your first time in London! There will be some things that won’t go as planned, but in most cases, these will be good things, so don’t get disappointed. I never planned to attend a stand-up comedy show, but at the end of the day we had a great laugh one evening.
As mentioned in my previous posts, planning is essential, because you know which attractions you want to visit and when. Figure this out in advance, because you can easily buy your tickets online. Buying tickets online hides many benefits and very few disadvantages.
If you want to have a good time in London prepare a lot of money and forget to count because everything there is created to make you spend a fortune. As Stephen said there are four reasons to visit London and it is sometimes impossible to combine all of them together in a single visit: Sightseeing, Shopping, Sports And Arts and Food.
If you are visiting the United Kingdom, you have to try fish & chips, steak and pastry. These are like a must-try! In addition, you can also try various other cuisines as London is one of the most diverse cities I have ever seen! Planning ahead is sometimes crucial even when it comes to food. If you want to enjoy the most out of your pub experience go visit the websites of some really famous pubs. Check whether they have some vouchers and discounts. We ate for 25 quid (I speak like British now, what do you know!), which included 2 main courses and one bottle of house wine. Everything was brilliant and we had an amazing time! They have Nando’s there too! But if you are asking someone make sure they are explaining to you the way to Nando’s, not to Chando’s!
If you are visiting London prepare to spend a fortune on travel cards and tickets. Get a week travel card and don’t forget to mind the gap. Or so I was told, 384902 times, while I was in one of the many trains. If you want to get the most out of your London experience make sure to check about regular works done on the tracks. These cause for some parts of the underground to be closed for maintenance. This could interfere with your plan and you might have to find alternative ways to get around. Check the official website for updates. In addition don’t forget to look for cars coming from the opposite side of the street and mind the gap. Safety is crucial. Look out for each other. Steven and I were ill most of the time, because of the weather difference, but luckily for us that’s the worst that happened while we were there. A group of Spanish tourists, however, cannot say the same – they were hit by a bus, because they were looking the other way.
Survive in London, visit London
